Game Design of Pirate Escape!

In the beginning i envisioned a runner game with a time limit to reach the end goal. I ended up deciding to make a "killwall" that chases the player until the last player. The player can also collect coins through the leves, although they have no use other than: "Ooo, a shiny coin!"

The Main gameplay loop i constructed was so:
  1. Start Level on the left side with the killwall right behind you
  2. Start running through the level and along the side collecting coins.
  3. Reach the end goal and see how fast you completed the level and how many coins you've collected throughout the level as an optional goal.
  4. Go onto the next level to get closer to winning the game.

Such a simple loop can provide much fun. When playtesting with friends the general vibes i got from them that the core gameplay is good, but it would be nice to introduce more obstacles or make more unique levels. This outcome is perfect for me, as my goal was to make the core gameplay as good as it could be.
